Connect Group guide: Bread of Life

The Bread of Life – Jo Wells

If you missed hearing this talk in person you can listen again here.

Summary

This was the start of our new ‘I am’ series, as we will be spending the next couple of months exploring each one of the ‘I am’ statements made by Jesus (the Bread of Life, the Light of the World, the Gate, the Good Shepherd, the Resurrection and the Life, the Way, the Truth, the Life, and the True Vine). The context for this first saying is the feeding of the 5,000 in John chapter 6, where Jesus fulfils people’s physical needs (hunger), and then uses that as way into addressing their spiritual hunger too and identifying Himself as eternal provision for people’s freedom as well as daily provision by His presence.

Reading: John 6

Discussion Questions

1. What stood out to you particularly from this passage? What is your response to this?

2. Who do you believe God is, is a big question! Talk about your responses to this, and share experiences of how you have or are coming to know God and what you have discovered, or how you have been changed along the way.

3. How does knowing Jesus as the Bread of Life influence the way you live your daily life, and the way you share life with others?

Prayer

Meditate on Peter’s response below, and allow space to pray into anything that has come up in conversation.

‘You, Lord have the words of eternal life. Where else would we go?’ – John 6:68

Notes for leaders

This subject may require some follow up, so you could point people towards resources like STEPS, Alpha, or our Pastoral Support team. (Alpha and STEPS are both starting soon! Visit our courses page for more details).
