Alpha is one of the best ways of exploring some of the bigger questions of life in a relaxed setting over nine thought-provoking weeks.
The course is completely free of charge and also includes a free two-course meal every week. Over 2.5 million people in the UK have been on Alpha.
Alpha is designed particularly for people who wouldn’t normally go to church, but is open to anyone who wants to explore some of the bigger questions of life, such as whether God is real, why suffering exists, and what life is really all about.
What can I expect?
Every week at Alpha you will get to share a meal with people on your table, hear a talk on an interesting topic and get the chance to discuss it in an open and honest manner, where no question is too simple or too hostile. It’s a great place to build friendships, some of which last beyond the course. If you are coming with friends you can choose to sit together – just let us know.
The evening starts at 19:00 and ends no later than 21:45 though you are free to arrive late or leave early should you need to.
How much is it?
Alpha is completely free of charge and includes a free two-course meal every week. The optional weekend away towards the end of each course costs £25 for students and £35 for wage earners.
Where and when does the Alpha happen?
Alpha starts at 19:00 every Wednesday, from October, at The Mermaid, Puddle Dock, Blackfriars, London, EC4V 3DB, a short walk from Mansion House or St Paul's station.
Please note that Blackfriars station is currently closed.
If you would like to come, you’re welcome to just turn up, but if you’d like any more information or have any questions, please get in contact.

Dr. Ard Louis - Science or Religion: Do we have to choose?
Mon Oct 04,
19.00 - 21.00
Has scientific advance made God out of date? What are the limits of science and religion? How do I obtain reliable knowledge about the world? How do I know that something is true or false? Is Richard Dawkins right about religion?
Dr Ard Louis, a Theoretical Physicist and Royal Society University Research Fellow at the University of Oxford, is well placed to provide answers to these questions. Ard leads an interdisciplinary research team looking at problems raised at the point where Physics, Chemistry and Biology meet, and often speaks around the world on science and religion and how we understand the world.
Ard is well known for his ability to explain complicated issues in plain language. Come and hear him speak about his childhood in Africa, his personal experience of God and his involvement in science around the world.

Noel Fellowes - Killing Time
Wed Oct 06,
19.00 - 21.00
Arrested and interrogated for a killing he knew nothing about. Sentenced to years behind bars for a crime he never committed. Hated by everyone in prison because he was an ex-policeman.
This is the story of former policeman Noel Fellowes, who was convicted of a murder of a man he had never met and sentenced to prison. Ten years after his release new evidence came to light that lead to his complete vindication.
Come and hear Noel who now travels the world, speaking about his journey from disbelief, fear, anger and hatred to becoming a Christian, and how he eventually came to be able to forgive those who had wronged him so badly.
