For over 60 years Compassion have been releasing children all around the world from poverty through their child sponsorship program. Christ Church is proud to partner with Compassion by supporting two Child Survival Programs in Rwanda, but we also invite individuals from Christ Church to sponsor children in the same area, meaning that the good we are able to do in those communities can be multiplied.
How does Compassion Child sponsorship work?
Compassion’s church partners find the poorest children in their communities and register them into the program, regardless of their faith or background. Compassion then link each child with one sponsor who begins to make an incredible difference through their letters, prayers and financial support. Sponsors receive letters from their sponsored child as well as photo updates and news from their project.
What does a sponsored child receive?
A sponsored child is given the care and resources they need to develop in every area of their lives – their mind, body and relationships:
- Fees, and uniforms to go to school
- Nutritious food
- Health check-ups
- Personal attention and guidance from loving staff members
- An age-appropriate Bible and biblical teaching
- Literacy and life skills training
- Vocational training such as bead-making or carpentry
- Encouragement from their sponsor’s letters
Compassion share God’s love with the children they care for, but they don’t require any child to become a follower of Jesus to be a part of the program and receive the benefits. They are committed to working with the poorest of the poor so they help children from all backgrounds regardless of caste, creed, class or religion.
Does it really work?
This program is life-changing – and you don’t just have to take Compassion’s word for it! According to an independent study, children who completed the Compassion program were more likely to have finished education, be in salaried employment and be leaders in their communities.
How do I get involved?
