The key themes of advent are represented through advent candles lit in churches across the world. These aren’t nice words to make us ‘feel Christmassy’, but truths at the heart of the reason we celebrate Christmas.

This four talk series explores each of these themes and promises of God, that we might experience and grow in each of them as we reflect on all that He has done and all that is to come. This series will help us to reflect on Advent as a season of waiting and longing; a season to sit with the darkness, with the promise of hope to be fulfilled. It’s a season to remember the coming of Jesus 2000 years ago and to actively wait for His coming again! We don’t wait alone; He is with us in the waiting. He is our Love, Joy, Peace and Hope. There is no one else like Him, and as Advent gathers us around these themes, it invites us to remember that in Matthew 1:23 we find an incredible ancient promise from the book of Isaiah that there is One coming who will be ‘God with us’.

Advent: Joy

Shaninga Marasha

In the Bible, we see that true joy comes from salvation. And salvation is God stepping into and changing our reality, breathing life into the things we thought dead. Through Jesus, God is showing us the best way to be human, to live a life filled with joy. In Advent, we watch as joy comes to earth and we wait for the fullness of it to come again.
