Miracles of Jesus

Kids at home 15th November

Over the next few weeks we are going to be learning more about Jesus and talking about some of the amazing miracles that He did!

Jesus performed many miracles while He was on the earth to help people know that He was the Son of God and to help them to put their faith and trust in Him. Through every miracle, people came to know Jesus and became friends with Him! Jesus also performed miracles because He loved people and wanted to help those who were sick or in need.

Today we are going to look at when Jesus helped His disciples catch a miraculous number of fish!

Let’s start with some worship! Feel free to sing and dance or just watch and listen, Jesus doesn’t mind HOW we worship, he just loves it when we spend time with him and sing his praises!

Jesus Calls Peter Saddleback Kids

Note to families:

Luke 5:1-11 if you prefer to read this to/with your little ones!

Some things to talk to your family about…

  • Have you ever been fishing? How many fish do you think you could catch in a day?
  • What was Jesus doing in the boat?
  • What happened in the story?
  • What do you think was so amazing about catching so many fish?
  • What do you think Jesus was trying to teach Simon Peter by helping him catch all those fish?
  • How do you think Simon Peter felt when he saw how many fish he’d caught? What did he do next?
  • Jesus taught the crowd who were on the shore from the boat. How do you think God teaches us today?

Some important points to remember…

  • The fishermen had been up all night fishing but they hadn’t caught any fish. Jesus told Simon Peter to push the boat out into deep water and try to catch some fish again. Simon Peter did what Jesus asked but he wasn’t expecting them to catch any fish as they’d tried all night and hadn’t got any but this time they caught a huge number of fish! It was a miracle!
  • Then Simon Peter knew how special and powerful Jesus was and fell to his knees before Him! Suddenly, Simon Peter was much more excited about seeing Jesus than about bringing in the huge catch of fish that they’d tried to catch all night!
  • When Jesus was by Peter’s side, he was able to catch all the fish he needed. Just like Jesus helped Peter and the fishermen, He can help you if you ask Him to and He loves it when you do!
  • This miracle reminds us again that Jesus can do anything and that He can help us with whatever we need! What amazing news!
  • Jesus invited Peter to come with Him and he invites us to come and follow Him too, isn’t that exciting?

Memory Verse

I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13

Just like Jesus was teaching the crowd from the boat in the story, God is still teaching us today, through His word, the Bible! This memory verse promises us that in every single thing we do, Jesus is with us and He helps us by giving us His strength! He is by our side, just like He was by Peter’s side and helped Him catch all those fish! He can help you and me with whatever it is we need Him to and we just need to choose to follow Him, like Peter did!

Why don’t you try and make up some actions at home with your family to help you to try and remember this verse?

Prayer time

Is there anything that you need God’s strength with this week? Perhaps you could talk about this as a family and share your thoughts with each other?

Dear Jesus,
Thank you that you are the God of miracles and that you can do anything!
Thank you that we can do all things with you by our side!
Thank you that you keep all of your promises!
Please help us to turn to you and to ask you for the things that we need and help us to trust you for them! Help us to choose to follow you, like Peter!
We love you!
Amen
