Christ Church London is about to embark on a significant new chapter. Find out more

International Justice Mission

The Field Office in the Dominican Republic may be one of IJM’s newest, only opening in 2013, but in its first 3 years it saw more convictions of sex traffickers and rescued more children from the sex trade then anyone had managed to do in the 10 years before its arrival combined.

In 2017 the DR Field Office was involved in the rescue of 25 children and teens from sex trafficking, the restoration of 12 survivors and the restraint of 20 traffickers and pimps. They also helped train over 670 police officers, judges, church members and other community leaders to combat sex trafficking. You can read their end of year impact report here.

But IJM’s work is not best told with statistics, but with the stories of real children and young people who have been rescued from the sex industry. Stories like that of eleven-year-old Alania (not her real name) who was rescued along with two sisters in March of last year by IJM and their partners. These three girls are now safe at an aftercare shelter and their abuser has been arrested and charged with human trafficking for the purpose of commercial sexual exploitation. You can read more about their story here.

Our prayer for IJM in the Dominican Republic is not just that they would continue to rescue and restore individuals, but that they would help bring about a cultural shift and an end to the commercial sexual exploitation of children. That may sound like an impossible dream but it is something that IJM has seen happen before. In the 13 years that they have been working in Cambodia they have seen the percentage of minors in the sex industry fall from 30% to just 0.1% and we are praying we would see something similar in the Dominican Republic.

Christ Church London supports the Dominican Republic Field Office financially, but also through prayer and by writing letters of encouragement to the staff team.
