The vision behind the Clever Cloggs project is the simple premise that when children receive a solid education, they have the opportunity to achieve their potential in later life, whatever their background. This project is based in South London where children in Years 4, 5 and 6 (aged 9-11) from disadvantaged backgrounds are given extra tuition in English and maths. We meet on a Saturday morning for 10 week stints at a time and teach, tutor and support children on a whole array of topics from fractions to alliteration, improving their academic ability, confidence and giving them space to make friends with children at different schools. Parents stay in the centre during the sessions, which is a great chance for volunteers to chat, catch up and build relationships with local families.
There are many opportunities for people to be part of Clever Cloggs: teaching a whole class of children, doing 1:1 tuition, helping with advertising the sessions to the families who need it most, chatting to parents, serving teas and coffees and baking cakes.
Clever Cloggs isn’t running this term, but if you would like to register your interest in helping out with the next course, please get in touch!!
