Prayer of Confession
Today, we have chosen to fast in order to draw closer to God, to be even more aware of His presence with us and our need for Him.
Instead of eating a midday meal, we are using this time to confess our sin and brokenness to God, receiving his forgiveness and grace in return.
Take a moment now to be still, to slow your breathing, and revel in the silence. Allow yourself to be aware of God’s presence with you.
Invite the Holy Spirit to reveal the condition of your heart. Where have you missed the mark recently? What things, even good things such as food, have replaced God’s presence in your life? Confess them to the Lord.
Heavenly Father,
As the pangs of my hunger invade my senses,
I am even more aware of my weakness and frailty.
Search me, oh God, and reveal the sin that currently grips my heart. I confess that I am in desperate need of your grace. Forgive me, Lord.
By the power of Your Holy Spirit, I repent and turn away from sin, seeking instead to live in the freedom purchased for me by the death and resurrection of your son, Jesus.
Amen
