Counting Fish Fingers in Heaven

Emma Sawers, one of our Kids Team leaders, explains what an honour it is to witness the youngest members of our church grow in their faith.

“But will Jesus have enough fish fingers for EVERYONE in heaven?”

A very good question indeed. And not one that I have ever had to answer before.

I look around at their eager faces, bright eyes open wide, hungry to know more about what this big party in heaven might be like.

And I realise what a significant question that actually is.

It’s amazing to think that answering this question might help our youngest members of ChristChurch London understand their generous Father in a new way. To think that this conversation might even help them make that step to entrust their lives to Jesus, as they think about heaven, and that it might be repeated around the family table at lunch or in the playground with friends.

At ChristChurch Kids, we are passionate about learning more about Jesus, singing songs, and having LOADS of fun! It’s a place where one minute a kids worker could be questioned on why Jesus was baptised when he had not sinned, and the next minute having a DMC* about the complicated plot twists in Paw Patrol.

It is an absolute joy and privilege to do church with these little ones on a Sunday morning.

I remember when I was growing up, I had a Sunday School teacher called Mark who I really looked up to. I was blessed to be brought up in a Christian family, but Mark was an adult who was super cool, as well as caring, and someone to whom we, as 4-8 year olds, asked all our questions about God.

Although I am not in touch with him anymore, I am grateful for his faithfulness in teaching us as kids; it really helped me understand who God is and led me to discover a relationship with Him.

I like to think that we, as kids workers, can be like Mark was to me (I might have skipped the “super cool” part…!). It is amazing to be on the front line of witnessing these little ones growing in their faith.

The Kids Work at ChristChurch London is growing with more and more children joining each week. We could really do with some more volunteers at both the South and Central Services so if you would like to find out more, please do get in touch!

Blessings and Woes
