Newday

Newday is a major youth event that takes place in the heart of the nation with thousands of young people, over 6 days, and has grown significantly over the last 2 years. Newday in 2010 takes place from Wed Aug 11 until Tues Aug 17.

Who is it for?

Newday is primarily aimed at young people between the ages of 12 and 19 but people from many age groups come both to serve in the children’s work and to support families and the teenagers. Over the last few years scores of people from ChristChurch London have helped at Newday.

What is a typical day at Newday?

The day starts by waking up in a field with friends, usually involving getting dressed and the optional shower before heading to the big top for the morning meeting, which is a time of worship and celebration and teaching from the Bible. After lunch there’s more time to hang out, get involved in sports, dance, drama, seminars or go off site with other young people into the city to do social action projects. In the evening all ages come together to worship God, hear from the Bible, pray and ask the Holy Spirit to come. It’s a time of really meeting with God. After the evening meeting there are opportunities to go to gigs, listen to music, eat food, candy floss and waffles.. and eventually going to bed…usually.

How does Newday fit within Newfrontiers?

Newday is an important part of Newfrontiers. It has been launched by Newfrontiers, as a family of churches together on a mission, and we’ve seen thousands of young people coming. We want to serve and work closely with other believers from different churches but Newday is very much something that fits in with the vision of the movement. We are committed to people planting churches and to sending people out into the nations to plant churches all over the world.

Church Planting and Short Term Mission

We believe the most effective way of reaching people in a new area is to plant a church. The Gospel not only needs to be proclaimed, but also to be demonstrated in tangible ways, and the best way is through Christians living out the Gospel together in a particular location. In this way new communities are established, often in places that have not seen authentic Christianity outworked through the church.

Over the past couple of years, we’ve been involved in sending people to Chicago, Dublin, Paris, Johannesburg, Sydney, Rio De Janeiro, Malmo and Ghana amongst others, and over time we’re wanting to raise leaders and send them all over the world.
