According to the internet search engine Ask Jeeves, the most unanswered question posted by internet search users is the question, “is there more to life than this?”
In truth, from time to time, many people reflect on this question as well as considering things like ; does my life have a purpose?; how do I find meaning in my life?; what happens when I die?
In this thought provoking and humorous talk we will look at why Christians believe that a man called Jesus Christ is the answer to these questions.
Come and enjoy a free meal, relaxed atmosphere and a talk and discussion about the most influential person ever to have lived. Alpha is designed to be a friendly and open place to discuss the larger questions of life, so no question is too controversial or out of bounds. There will be discussion after the talk in smaller groups.
This week will look at why Christians focus on the death of Jesus and consider it the most important event in human history, when humans failings and the problem of sin were dealt with once and for all. There will be discussion after the talk as well to an opportunity to share your opinion.
This week will focus on prayer. Almost everyone does it at some point or other in their life. Why is that? And why do Christians make a big deal of it? Discussion will follow the talk.
Almost without a doubt the Bible is the most popular, bestselling book in the world, yet surely it is out-dated and contradictory... Isn't it? This week will focus on what the Bible is, why we should read it and how to do so. Discussion will follow the talk.
This week we will be looking at what Christians believe about the devil. Is there a real force of evil in the world today and if so how should Christians respond to this?
One of the most fundamental objections many have to the Christian faith is the amount of suffering that we see all around us in the world today. If a loving God exists why does he allow some of the most terrible tragedies, injustices and natural disasters that we read about daily in our newspapers? How can God be aloof from the suffering of the human race?
This talk will try and provide some answers and perspectives on the Christian view of suffering highlighting that God may not be as detached from a world of pain as perhaps we first thought.
Can you be a Christian without going to Church? Many people say they are believers in Jesus Christ but don’t belong to any form of Christian Church. Does this matter? Is the church important or indeed relevant to people’s lives today or is simply too dull and remote to make any difference.
