DIY: Food Bank Venue Renovation

Sat Sep 11, 11.00 - 16.00

If you’re a dab hand with a paint-brush, like moving boxes, making tea, or simply boosting morale, then we’d love you to come and help clean up the venue for our Food Bank. Check out the City or blogs for more info on what Food Bank is all about, but suffice to say, through God’s provision and the generosity of London City Mission, we’ve managed to secure a venue for free to store and distribute food right in the heart of Vauxhall. Before we start collecting food however, we need to clean up the venue, provide a coat of paint on some walls, move some boxes, and generally tidy the place - and we’re hoping for 50 people to help make the day go smoothly! As an added bonus, we’ll be taking photos and videos of the day - so get yourself on the next CCL video! Find out more information in the Social Action group on The City.

Venue: Vauxhall Christian Centre: 105 Tyers Street, Vauxhall SE11 5HS.
5 mins walk from Vauxhall tube/overground station - walk under the railway bridge down Kennington Lane; Tyers Street is a couple of roads down on the right, or you can cut across the park - it's the large brick building just past the City Farm, very easy to find!

There is a large room, storage area and outside space with children's play equipment that we will be cleaning up. We will also be painting the main room and the area in the corridor just outside it. There is a fairly large amount of stuff in the room that needs to be taken to the tip, and some people will need to help with loading the van we are hiring for the day and dispose of the rubbish. We have also been offered some furniture, which will need to be collected from Putney Community Church and brought back to the venue. Therefore please don't wear your favourite clothes!

There will be refreshments and lunch will be provided for those working for the whole day.

Please let us know if you're definitely planning on coming. Constance, the lady from London City Mission who runs the centre, is giving up her day off to be with us on the 11th. We therefore want to be as much of a blessing to her and LCM as possible, so knowing how many people are available will really help with organising the day.

It would be great if most people can come from 11-4, but any time you can give up is hugely appreciated! In the morning we are hoping to share a little more about the foodbank project for 10mins or so, for those who are not familiar with it  - so please do come then if you can make it.

Thank you again for your enthusiasm to get involved in foodbank - we are very excited about it!
